Will Kenya Premier League Defending Champions Gor Mahia still reign supreme come next season?

The past few weeks have seen Kogallo lose two of their standout performers last season in the form of Jacques Tuyisenge and Francis Kahata.

Tuyisenge was on Wednesday officially unveiled at Petro de Atletico in Angola while Kahata was already confirmed at Simba SC in Tanzania.

Gor is also set to lose captain Harun Shakava who on Wednesday announced that his time at Gor Mahia is over. This was after Gor’s 2-1 loss at the hands of the Green Eagles in the ongoing Cecafa Kagame Cup in Rwanda.

“I am done with Gor Mahia. I have to get a new challenge now. I have enjoyed good memories with the club and would like to wish them well,” Shakava told Goal.

With the lose of 3 quality players, Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay believes that the club will have a mountain to climb next season if the Club’s management fails to find the perfect replacement for Tuyisenge and co.

“When you let quality players go, you have to let new quality players come in, similar players but of the same quality,” Said Oktay during an interview with Goal in Kigali.

“It is going to be a tough year for us if we don’t get the players who fit the qualities of the club. It will be tough, we will struggle,” he added.

According to Oktay, Gor Mahia needs to sign three quality players before the start of the new season.

Gor Mahia has already a number of signings but Coach Oktay is still not satisfied with what is at his disposal.

“Gor Mahia need to sign about three quality players, we need them here now. We have only signed players from the lower league, we signed youth team players and that is not enough, with such a squad, we will struggle, we need players”

“If you ask me, we need two strikers and one winger, a very good wide player,” he said.

With Gor Mahia out to defend it’s KPL title and also take part in the CAF Champions League, the club will need a great squad that can fight for great results both locally and internationally.

Kogallo have already made a total of seven signings so far.

The Club recently completed the signing of Tanzanian pair of Singida United keeper David Kissu and winger Dickson Ambundo from Alliance FC.

The Club also signed Dennis Oalo and Curtis Wekesa both from NSL side Nairobi Stima, Tobias Otieno and Abdalla Shira from Sony Sugar and Centre back Elvis Ronack from Nzoia Sugar FC.

Who should Gor Mahia Sign to perfectly replace Tuyisenge and Kahata heading into the new season?
