Football Kenya Federation President Nick Mwendwa is in for some tough competition for his seat when the football governing body goes to the polls.

This follows a decison by former Vihiga Governor Moses Akaranga to contest for the position of Federation President in the forthcoming elections.

Confirming his bid, Akaranga promised to transform the Kenyan football scene once elected to office. The former County boss promised to forsee a turnaround in fortunes within different Kenya Premier League Clubs as he said that he is committed to attracting sponsors for different Clubs and the Kenyan Leagues.

“It beats logic to see teams representing the country like Gor Mahia struggling to raise funds to honour matches abroad due to lack of financial support and little is being done by the federation to end this trend,” said Akaranga as quoted by People Daily.

“Am not entering this race as an ordinary person but rather as a serious and major stakeholder having propelled Vihiga United to great heights, just the same way I’m currently doing with Vihiga Bullets who are currently taking part in National Super League,” he added.

Akaranga also promised to address the selection of players to the National team saying that it will be purely based on merit.

He has also promised to promote Women Football in the Country.

“We need to see players from all corners of the country given a chance, because football is not only played in Nairobi. I will alsO ensure that women football is well supported and well managed,” he said.

On the forthcoming elections, Akaranga called on current office bearers to level the playing ground so that many potential candidates are not locked out due to strict conditions.

Akaranga is not a new name in the Kenyan football scene as he is credited with the success of Vihiga United which managed to gain promotion to the Kenya Premier League before suffering relegation last season.

He is also the man supporting another NSL Side Vihiga Bullets and is credited for the success of Vihiga Queens that takes part in the Women Premier League.
