Kenya Crash out of AFCON as CS Amina Hosts Team to Luncheon in Egypt

It is now official that Harambee Stars will not be among the teams that make the cut to the round of 16 at the Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.

This is after Benin held the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon to a barren draw on Tuesday evening.

That result saw Benin go level on points with Kenya but with a superior goal difference.

Kenya will decry the many goals it conceded at the tournament including the 3-0 loss at the hands of Senegal last time out.

Meanwhile, as Kenya waited to know her fate, Sports Cabinet Secretary Amb. Amina Mohamed treated the team to a luncheon in Egypt.

Flanked by Kenyan Ambassador to Egypt H.E Joff Otieno, the Sports CS expressed her congratulatory message to the team for putting up a strong fight despite not booking an automatic round of 16 slot.

“You did more than your best. As the President said (during the team’s visit to State House before departure to Egypt), it is not about winning but about doing your personal best, and that you did,” said CS Amina Mohamed.

“We are very happy that you are here after 15 years, and now it’s time we endeavor being in each and every AFCON,” added the Sports Cabinet Secretary.

Kenya won one and lost two out of three group C matches, outcomes that saw the team finish third in the group.

Kenya will now turn her attention to the first round of the 2020 Africa Nations Championships Qualifiers against Tanzania with the match set to be played this month.
