Gor Mahia head coach Hassan Oktay seem to have finally seen light at the end of the tunnel following his previous take on Kogallo’s chances heading into the new season.

Last week saw a disappointed coach Oktay voice his frustrations at the current composition of the Gor Mahia squad following the club’s failure to replace former lead striker Jacques Tuyisenge who departed for Angolan top tier side Petro De Atletico.

Speaking after a 2-1 defeat at the hands of the Green Eagles from Zambia in the Cecafa Kagame Cup Quarterfinals stage, Coach Oktay claimed that next season will be a tough one for the defending champions given the type of players at their disposal.

The Coach also revealed that he has never signed any player for Gor Mahia since he took over the reigns of power.

“It is going to be a tough year for us if we don’t get the players who fit the qualities of the club. It will be tough, we will struggle.” he said to Goal

“Interestingly as the head coach, I have never signed a single player at Gor Mahia. I found them here. The defeat was a wake-up call to us and we now need to shift focus to the champions league and the premier league,” He added.

The Turkish Cypriot also stated that Gor need two strikers and a winger.

He has now said that he only needs one more player. He admitted that he may have spoken out of anger after the Cecafa Kagame Cup defeat.

“You know when you speak immediately after a game, sometimes you are emotional you may say things that are not true. I am happy with the players I have, we have strengthened the team with some good young players and we are in a good position to compete. We just need one striker and we will be good to go,” Said Oktay as quoted by Opera News.

Gor Mahia has so far signed eight players. The newly acquired players are; Dickson Ambundo, David Mapigano, Curtis Wekesa, Dennis Oalo, Abdalla Shira, Tobias Otieno, Elvis Ronack and Maurice ‘Fadha’ Ojwang who completed his switch from Western Stima on Tuesday.

Gor Mahia is alos reportedly interested in the services of Sofapaka Striker John Avire with head coach Hassan Oktay voicing his admiration for the young foward.

Oktay believes that Avire can fill the void left by Jacques Tuyisenge.

“I need just one striker to replace Tuyisenge and my team will be complete. We lost the best striker we had in the whole league and we have to get an able replacement. I have several players in mind but I think Avire suits that position. He is young, hardworking, strong, overall he is a quality player. The best part is that he is young and I can make him even a better player. My chairman knows that I am interested in him and hopefully we will get him,” he told Opera News.

Gor Mahia will be looking foward to defending their KPL title next season as the Club also takes part in the CAF Champions League where they have been drawn against Burundian side Aigle Noir CS in the preliminary round.
