Scholes Gives Reasons Why Man United Should Move For Mesut Ozil

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has urged his former club to sign Arsenal star Mesut Ozil.

Ozil has made just two appearances for Arsenal so far this season in all competitions.

The German has not made the match day squad for the last five games despite being fully fit and was once again left out for Thursday’s Europa League visit of Vitoria.

And Scholes thinks Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s United side would benefit from the 31-year-old’s creativity.

Scholes was speaking after United’s 1-0 Europa League win over Partizan Belgrade on Thursday.

Talking to Scholes, BT Sport presenter Jake Humphrey let slip that the former midfielder had said to him off-air wanted to see Ozil in a Red Devils shirt.

“We think you might have got the answer though [to United’s problems] – Mesut Ozil,” Humphrey said.

“I knew you wouldn’t want me to say this on air but we were watching the game and you said someone like Ozil would make a real difference in this team.

“He’s completely not involved for Arsenal this evening.”

Scholes replied: “Yeah, I can’t understand it. I think he’s a player who can link a team together.

“I think he’s got great quality, he’s shown that in his career.

“He could be an answer short term, I don’t know.

“I think that would be up to him ultimately, if he wants to take a pay cut.

“No I probably can’t [see it happening] but I just think he’s the type of player, short term, that Manchester United could do with.”

United are in need of some creativity, having not scored more than once in a game since the opening day of the Premier League season where they beat Chelsea 4-0.

Their win over Partizan means they have seven points from their three Europa League group games.
